MUSEUM PROGRAM
Studio Art Program | Museum Visits | Art Staff Development Program | Art Institute | Student Art Exhibits

Four schools and over 1,000 students participated in the Museum Program during the 2010-2011 school year. Our art educators worked with classroom teachers to design a theme based lesson keyed to a museum visit. Students were introduced to world-class museums and art galleries while the classroom teachers had the opportunity to expand their teaching techniques. In addition to bringing our students to the city’s rich cultural institutions, the Museum Program introduces students to several visual art techniques and communication styles. It teaches them to appreciate and critique artworks they have studied in class. Teachers, in turn, appreciate the wealth of instructional resources on the walls and in the display cabinets of museums. These field trips increase student enthusiasm, creativity, and academic interests. The Museum Program is one of the most effective and exciting components of CCVAP. CCVAP’s Museum Program Artist and Staff Developer conducts the visual arts museum program for schools. Karina Cavat leads teacher workshops and works with faculty to create and implement class curricula that complements field trips to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. After these visits, the students wrote a review of the art they created and displayed their work in a student exhibition.
